Dear Ponyboy:
I know you always think that we are having good grades, good cars, good girls, madras, and Mustangs and Convair. But you know what, you are totally wrong. We live in the affluent west side of town. You always think that we are rich, we can get anything if we want to. You think of us as dangerous enemies. We may have more money than the Greasers, but we are still people who also face pain in the same way and who struggle through the problems in life. We have more than we ever wanted. We are always going and going. We don't know where are we going. We can not lose our cool. We are living behind a wall of aloofness never letting our real selves show. We are impersonal. So I want you to think from the Socs side, if you were a Socs, you will understand the difficulties that we are facing. Money can buy you all kinds of awesome, luxurious material items but it cannot buy you happiness, friendships, love or anything else that cannot be held or touched. Soc's and Greasers aren't that different, even though the Soc's are wealthy and the Greasers are poor. Problems for us could be the same as y'all's: Not getting along with our family, making bad grades, fighting with friends, we are all just teenagers, and have many commonalities.
From all above, I hope you can understand our problems and we can be peaceful and maybe we can make friends, too. I wish that we can stop fighting because Bob died. We are really sad about that, so we don't want it to happen again.
Best,
Randy Anderson
